Students with learning disabilities have been greatly impacted over the past few years. There have been dramatic changes to the education support they can access, whether in the classroom or through online learning. Despite the dedicated efforts of teachers, we know that many students are falling through the cracks in the system.
The constant shift between in-person and online learning has led to an incalculable amount of learning loss. This level of learning loss could affect our students well into adulthood. These students need immediate direct, specialized support in order to succeed. And that is where LDAHH is here to help.
Our son is unique thinker, who was struggling to fit into the traditional public school system, and especially virtual school. He was reluctant to participate, felt shy and left out, and frustration often got in the way of learning . Now at LDAHH Learning Pod, he is flourishing in his relationships with peers and teachers who have patience, empathy and understanding for his individual strengths, a joy that motivates him to engage wholeheartedly in learning.
In response to the pandemic, LDAHH is launching an in-person LEARNING POD to support our children. The vision for this program is to use highly skilled educators and proven practices to meet our students where they’re at, help them make gains in the areas where they have been struggling, and empower them to feel confident and excited about their learning again. We will work with each child’s strengths and identify key areas where they need the most support. Each day will include structured physical activities — proven to be effective for teaching students with learning disabilities and ADHD.
This program is designed to provide intensive remediation to fill the gaps in learning that have been preventing students from doing well at school. Students will meet and connect with peers with similar learning challenges, allowing them to make friends, all in a safe space with caring educators who understand and embrace their specific needs. Staff involved in the program will be Special Educators, Ontario Certified Teachers, Early Childhood Educators, and Orton-Gillingham trained tutors.
Regular feedback and communication with parents is also an essential component of this program.
The following subjects will be covered: Literacy, Multi-sensory Math, Science, Social Studies and Social Skill
*Art, Drama, Music and Dance will be integrated into other subjects, where appropriate, but not all elements of the Ontario curriculum will be covered. French and Gym will not be taught.

Please Note: An application does not guarantee a spot. Interviews will be done with both students and parents as well as a pre- assessments to determine fit. The child’s primary diagnoses must be a Learning Disability.
What happens once you’ve been accepted?
You meet with us for an intake interview! This ensures we all understand our goals, success plans, assessments, and everything in-between for the best outcomes possible.
The Learning Disabilities Association of Halton-Hamilton follows and will continue to follow all Public Health guidelines and requirements for the operation of its in-person programs. However, due to the unpredictable nature of COVID-19 and it’s affect on the Halton-Hamilton area, the Learning Disabilities Association of Halton-Hamilton reserves the right to transition all in-person classes to a virtual environment in accordance to any recommendation by Health Canada. When signing up for this program, you agree that in-person classes may be held online when deemed necessary. No refunds will be applicable in the case that classes continue in-person and families choose to withdraw, but applicants will have the choice to withdraw if classes transition to online-based learning.
